Albany resident Michael Noakes
Albany resident Michael Noakes claimed a free plumbing service as part of the Waterwise Towns Program

Free waterwise offers still available in 21 Great Southern communities

Free waterwise showerheads and rainwater tank rebates are still available across 21 Great Southern towns, with residents being encouraged to take advantage of offers while stocks last.

Offers are available under Water Corporation’s 2023-24 Waterwise Towns Program, which has already seen 457 water-efficient showerheads installed by 285 households in the region since October.

A further 160 eligible Water Corporation customers in Albany have registered for free plumbing and irrigation services.

Albany resident Michael Noakes was among those to claim a free plumbing service, which has allowed him to install waterwise taps and showerheads at his Mira Mar home.

“When I moved to Albany in 1996 it was wet all the time. Now, there is a lot less rain, but people still perceive Albany as a very wet town and that’s just not the case anymore,” Mr Noakes said.

“We all have a responsibility to live as sustainably as possible, and things like waterwise fixtures around the home are a great way to help achieve this.”

Across the Great Southern, winter rainfall has already decreased around 13 per cent since 1968 and is projected to decline by up to 19 per cent by 2050. It means it’s more important than ever to remain waterwise, according to Water Corporation Great Southern Manager Adrian Stewart.

“We know that seemingly small changes like installing waterwise showerheads around the home can collectively make a big impact which is why we’re encouraging residents to take advantage of these offers to help you save water around the home and lower water bills,” Mr Stewart said.

“The Waterwise Towns Program helped save more than three million litres of water in the Great Southern in 2022-23.”

Rainwater tank rebates and water-efficient showerheads are available in eligible communities until 31 May 2024, while stocks last. For more information, visit watercorporation.com.au/waterwiseoffers.

New offers and eligible communities will be announced when the 2024-25 Waterwise Town Program launches in October.
